This is my first time posting on this forum, but I have a sort of strange situation and want to know if anyone has any experience or input to share.

I have a FREENAS setup that I just put together and I am looking at backup options. I already own a lacie big8 48TB storage array. It only supports thunderbolt.

FreeNAS does not support thunderbolt but does support USB 3.0.

IF I were to buy a thunderbolt-USB 3.0 converter would I be able to connect the external storage to my FreeNAS and use it as a backup destination for all my data?

There is no product on the market that does what you want, for a number of good technical reasons.

I'm too lazy to search if they make such an adapter but alternatively you could just mount the thunderbolt storage array to one of your macs then backup over the network through a sharing protocol.
