Does the speed of the USB flash drive used for booting FreeNAS have any impact on performance after booting?

I'm assuming no, but before I get a cheap & slow thumb drive I want to make sure that it isn't used for journaling, logging or anything else that would impact I/O performance.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Hi vaultdweller,

The speed of the USB key doesn't matter. FreeNAS minimizes the number of writes to the key to prevent wearing it out. Just be sure you keep an up-to-date copy of your config & it should never fail!

That said, I'd spend the few bucks more for a quality key.
