Installed FreeNAS yesterday as a replacement for Win7 оn my home server.
I'm new to using *nix systems, have been using only Win since mid-90s, thus my questions are naive.
I managed to set up almost everything, thanx to this site and documentation.
Couldn't solve one small promlem:
I have a Ippon Back Comfo Pro 800 UPS attached to the system. I know the USB port to which it is attached. (just plugged it out and in and read the text on server console). I tried to start UPS monitoring via Services->Control services and got this output:
Jan 7 11:38:35 GATE upsmon[33848]: upsmon parent: read
Jan 7 11:38:35 GATE notifier: Waiting for PIDS: 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849, 33849.
Jan 7 11:38:35 GATE notifier: nut not running? (check /var/db/nut/upsd.pid).

UPDATE. I fixed the first problem, the problem was with the wrong UPS driver, was trying to use COM instead of USB, thanx to user danb35

Now I keep getting the following from the service:

Jan 8 10:30:59 GATE upsmon[5249]: Poll UPS [ups] failed - Driver not connected
Jan 8 10:31:04 GATE upsmon[5249]: Poll UPS [ups] failed - Driver not connected

Jan 8 10:31:43 GATE notifier: Will not 'restart' nut_upslog because nut_upslog_enable is NO.

Could someone help with a step-by-step solution?

I suggest, from the GUI, go to the UPS panel in Services & specify a driver then try to start from the GUI. If the service does not start, try a different driver. I'm not familiar with that UPS but note the GUI specifies a device but really just loads the generic driver (as shown in () behind the name. Hope this helps.

Hmm. Yes, suprisingly that helped. My fault - I didn't pay attention that there're 2 versions of driver, separate for USB and serial port.
So many non-obvious points in setup ;-)
Like I stil can't find out how to save edited file in nano editor ;-)

Ctrl-O (for Out, I think) will save the file and keep it open, Ctrl-X will exit, and prompt you to save if you've made any changes. Ctrl-G (Get help) will bring up the help screen, which is pretty informative.

The problem was with Chrome, I installed Firefox - works fine
