I can't necro this old thread, but is this still the correct process for upgrading TrueNAS to a new CPU / MB / Ram combination:

Specifically
Before upgrading:
- Backup your configuration (just in case..)
- Stop sharing services.
- Detach your pool - but keep shares and data when asked!

After upgrading:
- Boot with the same USB stick
- Auto-import pool. Done.

Maybe detaching isn't even necessary, but I'm not exactly sure.

EDIT: Added stop services step.

Currently using latest update of Bluefin Scale. I am not changing hard drives or any storage configs at all (I hope).

Question: (1) Is this still correct above?
(2) do I need to keep the Sata cable configuration the same or is Truenas smart enough to figure it out if it changes by accident?. Ie., boot SSD (Sata0), HDD1 -> (Sata1)? It will be challenging to do this consistently because I am using a PCI-E sata 8 port card and not sure if the new board will reassign these....

Thanks for the help!

Still correct. There's no need to keep track of cable configuration, but you'll need to go through network configuration if the NIC and/or motherboard changes.

Thank you Etorix. Appreciate the reassurance. My 10+ year old TS140 server running Truenas is finally being put out to pasture. Says something about this software that I haven't had a single major issue (aside from random Jails / plugin bugs) with this thing for that long.
