Hi Truenas Gurus.
My trusty Truenas server is running out of space and need to upgrade. Currently Ts140 Thinkserver, 16GB Ram, 6x3tb.
New rig will have space for 11Xhdds, and will stick with the 3TB standard drives I have.

Is a 11x3Tb Z3 better or a 11x3TB z2? Nothing on the drives is critical data and mainly media feeding a large family + small minecraft server.

I read the 2015 thread that asked the same question, but figured in 5+ years the advice might have changed:

Appreciate the support and help.

I try to avoid more than 6-8 devices wide vdevs. Just a gut feeling and from what I read, 11 disk RAIDZ3 is perfectly ok. Until we get DRAID, a pool of two times 6 disk RAIDZ2 will resilver faster in case of a drive failure. That's my main motivation. I like manageable chunks of "things". And the overhead of 6 disk RAIDZ2 is perfectly OK for my tastes of "wasted money on drives". At home I run 4 disk RAIDZ2, so ...

I cannot give you technically stringent advice. I would go for the two 6 disk vdevs.
