My TrueNAS says that there is an Update.
When I start this update it downloads the file and starts installation,
but it just gets to 66,67% of the base-os installation.
I was hoping to speed TrueNAS up. My SMBs on Windows 10 work fine
after a fresh start of the system. But when I leave the system for
a couple of hours or oveer night I come back to work with the
file on the NAS, the system is realy slow and I have to reboot
to get a workingspeed again.

This is the message I get when I start the Update:

Update
66.67%
Installing base-os (1/3)

Under System->Boot I already got listed several entrys:

Delete all the U8.1 failed environments, reboot and try again.
What is the boot device ?

Can't select
12.0-U8.1-3 / Reboot / 2022-04-19 15:35:00 / 1.20 GiB / no
to delete it.

Just tried to clone this and it says: [EFAULT] Failed to create boot environment: ERROR: Boot environment 'temp' does not exist

Is there a way to get rid of this at the shell?

Change its status from reboot and you can delete it.
One environment needs to be "reboot"

Deleting the entry now works, Update still stucks at 66,67% of the base-os

Just checked the boot-page again.
Size is slowly decreasing, so I guest it's a read/write problem
that slows the system down and it takes forever to write the base-os

I'd save your existing config in case it's a boot media problem.

You might try downloading the U8.1 ISO, booting from ISO, and installing as an update (i.e. not a fresh install).

Installing as an update will create a new boot environment and migrate your config. Just make sure to delete any failed boot environments so there is sufficient boot-pool space.

Thanks I will try that tonight.
Just checked again under boot, 12.0-U8.1 is growing with 0,35 MB/min (Took over 2 hours for the 1.2 GB)
With this speed TrueNAS is no fun.
What is dragging TrueNAS down? How can I find out what is causing this slowdown?

Just started an update via iso on USB-Stick.
Got this message:
temp.PNG

ada0 is a ssd connected to a PCIe SATA-Controler.
Why do I get this message?

Now upgrade and fresh installation (with formating boot device)
I still have the old installation from February without any change running.

Now I removed unused ada3 and installed 12-U8.1 via USB-Stick.
Now I have 5-10 MB/s write and read speed. No fun at all.

temp.PNG

the peak around 95 MB/s is a fio test
Now, this morning, the speed dropped to 3 MB/s
