I've just updated my FreeNAS 9.3 using the automatic up-dater and on re-booting I was looking through the shell and noticed failed socket:33 and also kernelPid... excited on signal 6. Is this anything to be concerned about or is this just FreeNAS booting back into its normal running mode?

I've recently started teaching myself FreeBSD and would recommend that all noobs do so especially when it comes to SMART monitoring and testing and understanding the results. There is some fantastic stuff in the Forum that you can experiment with, but I haven't reached the stage where I understand this sort of stuff... well not yet ;)

Anytime anything dumps core, it is something to be concerned. A process will dump core right before it completely fails. Dumping core means it dumped the contents of it's memory out to disk prior to dying.

If you want to learn freebsd though, you should go to the freebsd forums and site.

syslogng crashing... I think there's another thread about this that's rather recent and hasn't gotten any replies yet. Might want to file a bug report.
