A week ago I updated to U5 and yesterday the system rebooted for the first time.

I don't see the hardware specs on your system anywhere. That would be very helpful. It is only a guess without that, by my guess would be a lack of RAM is a possible culprit for a reboot during a scrub.

@I-Tech

Sure!
Just select the "old" Boot Environment and reboot ! ;-)

yeah.. well.. that was the easy answer.

I was kinda thinking more about the possible side effects and functional changes associated with going back to 11.0-U4 :p

There a very few functional changes between -U4 to -U5.
https://www.ixsystems.com/blog/library/freenas-11-1-u5/

Consider to write a bug report from within -U5 incorporating Debug info.
http://doc.freenas.org/11/system.html#support
If you decide upon doing so, please post the issue number here.

Hi .. thanks for the reply .. but unfortunately the rollback in question is from the current "sawtooth of despair" 11.1-U5 to the "last known non-random-reboot" release 11.0-U4 (with the perhaps numerous associated functional changes)

I have looked for / will look again for any debug information that may help with this issue

Hello everyone, i'm joining the discussion as well: my sistem started rebooting randomly after updating to u5 a few days after it's release. At first i reverted u4, and the reboots disappeared. After 1 week they came back. I changed motherboard and for another week everything was fine so i decided to update again to U5. But reboots came back. This morning i woke up to a nightmare: i received 12 emails from the NAS with unauthorized reboots. The machine is basically hanging everytime it starts and i have no way to do anything. I'm running a memtest just to be sure everything is fine but it is weird to say the least.

Asrock e3c224d4i-14s
16GB DDR3 ECC
6x3TB WD RED
Seasonic 450W

Hi. just wanted to add to the previous posts. We had FreeNAS 9 running for 5+ years without any issues. Right after updating to FreeNAS 11, we started having unauthorized reboots and hanging systems that could only be recovered from through hardware resets. This happened between one and 8 times per day and could only be resolved by downgrading to FreeNAS 9.

I've been running 11.2-BETA1 for 9 days without a single unauthorized reboot so far. Fingers crossed!

Edit: Unfortunately not, see below.

So I reinstalled U5 and didn't restore my backup config I just did everything from scratch accept for the zfs volume. it did a couple of Unauthorized Reboots and then it sort of stabilized it's been up for 17 days now. I don't know what that means. I tried it in the past and it didnt work so i don't know whats happening this time but i have had like 3 scrubs since the last UR. I'm sure now that I'm posting this it will resume the sawtooth of dispair. I'm thinking trying to transfer all of my data to a backup to see if that causes it to crash... I will have to buy a drive though for that.

My system is normally stable running 3 plugins and 1 standard jail. I tried to add a new jail a couple days ago and when I was installing Unifi it caused my system to reboot. This issue is getting old.

I really hope that this will be properly addressed in 11.2.

Cheers,

I will try U6 because any time I load up my system it reboots. Really hope this bug gets fixed...
