Unable to install plugin - DHCP/networking fails on FreeNAS Mini XL

I'm running FreeNAS-11.2-U2.1 on a FreeNAS Mini XL that's gone through several updates - it looks like I bought it in February 2017.
I don't think I've tried installing plugins before now, but I want to run Syncthing, and am having problems installing it.

With the DHCP option enabled, progress hangs at 50% before throwing the error "[EFAULT] Exception: RuntimeError: + Acquiring DHCP address: FAILED, address received: 0.0.0.0/8 Stopped syncthing due to DHCP failure occured, destroyed syncthing."
If I enter an IP address like 192.168.0.10 it seems to do some network lookups etc. before saying something network-related failed.
I know other people have reported this error running FreeNAS in a VM, but I'm running it on bare metal.

Anyone have any ideas?

I hadn't understood that plugins need their own _public_ IP address. Since the FreeNAS box is on an interface that doesn't have DHCP, it's no surprise DHCP wasn't working! After I configured it with a good static IP address it all worked.
