I was unable to delete a troublesome linux/debian virtual machine/hanging state, glitched out vnc display, no serial available etc, and eventually unable to remove fully/it's attachments from the UI(still listed)
The solution for me:
Simply create a dummy zvol with the exact name of the missing /path/dataset as mentioned in error message (the vm name+it's given hash)
Then delete the vm from within the UI again (force/delete).
