TrueNAS SCALE restricting capabilities (SMART, more?) when running on a virtual machine

I found out a very odd behaviour on TrueNAS SCALE when being run on a VM (both on Proxmox and on XCP-Ng), at least one of the functionalities (SMART, don't know if more), check if running in a VM and get restricted (the service message is really that it's not running if it is inside a virtual machine).

Did anyone else noticed this? Why is iXystems putting up this restriction? Any work around possible?

There was a bug report about this earlier, afaik it's not even an iX designed limit but an upstream decision.

Thank you. By upstream decision, you meant a "maintainers of SMART systemd service" decision?

It was one of the upstreams afaik, not sure if it was the systemd service or the python middleware.
