Hello we are planning to deploy truenas scale on HP Z220
For miroring du operating system and boot wich is the recommended option setup recommended set up raid 1 on bios setup or from the trunas mirroring boot

Please remove any RAID controller from your server, and replace it with an HBA.

TrueNAS SCALE or CORE never wants BIOS setup RAID. Always use TrueNAS for any RAID function, like Mirroring your boot pool.

Yes, I thought of adding that caveat. But, for new users that is more on the complex side, (and perhaps adding confusion).


We even did that 3 disk boot pool at Sun Microsystems with Solaris. We had 2 drives in a IR RAID-1 as the primary boot, with a 3rd drive as the secondary boot software Mirror. This allowed us to use broken Mirror OS software updates, with 100% back out plan to 3rd drive if we needed it. (And using 2 drives in IR RAID-1 meant that our upgraded OS was not at risk of data loss.)

However, this was right around Solaris 10's integration of ZFS. So the new method of OS updates using ZFS dataset snapshots did not yet exist.
