Hello. I'm new to the forum and I need help installing Truenas. I have the following hardware:
Dell R720
64GB RAM
9 600GB SAS hard drives
PERC4 RAID Controller

I've been reading that as truenas works with the ZFS file system, it prefers to have direct control over the disks, however, my Dell has a PERC4 controller. I didn't find an option to disable pass-through mode (IT - initiator target). I intend to use RAID 5 in the Truenas pool and make the most of the available space with redundancy. How should I leave the RAID configuration on the PERC4 controller? I thought of the following configuration:

HDs 1 and 2 (RAID 1 - OS)
HDs 3 - 7 (RAID 0 individually for each HD)
Can I use this configuration or is there a better way to manage it?

Thanks.

You don't, this has been discussed to death. Multiple times over. Hardware RAID is a complete no-go.

Also, a PERC 4 on an R720? That does not sound right, that's a parallel SCSI family of controllers. You probably have something like an H710, which can be crossflashed. If you don't, just buy a suitable HBA, life is too short for hardware RAID.
