currently running my TrueNAS core 12.0U3 with 16Gb RAM. as expected TrueNAS takes it all, it's doing ok, (not very happy with my Plex performance running in a Jail).
TrueNAS shouldn't "take it all" afaik, it should use 50% for ZFS and the rest depending on service load. But to be fair: I've seen weird behavior with this on CORE too.

So wondering, with the migrate to SCALE, how much resources I will be able to give the single node K8s environment,
You don't "give" it resources, it just uses resources.
The same way you don't "give" resources to a specific program on your PC.

However: It is technically already possible to limit the resource consumption on a per-pod(/container?) basis when you make your own Apps/Charts :)

I tried running Ubuntu in a Jail, but even before installing anything it was very sluggish, simply by remote desktop connecting to it.
Maybe because you don't have much RAM, add jails to it, ZFS to it AND try to add other OS's onto it... It doesn't have to be TrueNAS thats at fault there...

Totally forgot your initial question though >.<

I'd be keen to know what type of "performance" I could expect.
I'm running about 15 containers and two iscsi shares and daily (compressed) backups, on a 9700 and 48Gb ram.

... ye think that 48Gb RAM makes the world difference.

I got a i5 7400 Intel Processor and 16Gb RAM.
