Hi folks,
two days ago my TrueNAS boot device (USB Stick) broke. So I followed the advice and got an SSD to from instead (still booting from USB, though, because there is no SATA left...). I reinstalled TrueNAS and I found two strange problems (and I don't know if there linked, that's why I'm posting both).
1) On booting DHCP does not seem to work. TrueNAS says that the webserver has no ip. As soon as I delete the interface igb0, or just the settings or set them to DHCP via CLI it works. But upon next boot it's stuck again. Also, it only manages to get an IP and the nameserver via DHCP never the Gateway.
When logging into the UI after resetting the Network Interface I am greeted by the welcome screen. Always.
As soon as I set a static IP as well as Nameserver and Gateway, everything is working just fine. Also the welcome screen does not reappear. Might be normal behavior, but seemed strange to me.
Because my old boot device broke and I did not recover my settings, it might be that I had this problem from day 1, set a static IP and completely forgot and DHCP never worked on my setup....
This problem did happen before and after I reimported my pool. So it also happens on a fresh TrueNAS boot device.
2) As I imported my pool, I was not able to access any old configs on /var/db/system. There were - still are - two config-<long_number> folders, but there completely empty. I have no idea if this is related somehow. My settings are persisted and still there after reboots...
Apart from DHCP not working the system runs completely fine now.
What I already tried:
- Booted Ubuntu and ran stress- as well as memtest (DHCP worked in Ubuntu!)
- Loaded BIOS defaults, even updated the BIOS in the end.
- Removed my pihole DHCP from network and used Router DHCP instead. All other devices are working with DHCP, no problem.
- Used two different switches and also plugged directly into Router.
- Used different Cable
- Try other TrueNAS versions like 12Release and 12U5 and 12U2
All with no difference
My Setup:
- X570 I AORUS PRO WIFI (rev. 1.0)
- AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G
- 64GB ECC RAM
- 4x 8TB Seagate Exos E 7E8 as RAIDZ2
- 2x 512GB Samsung Evo 970 Pro as Cache and Log
- igb0 is an Intel Gigabit LAN, dmesg says "Intel(R) I211 (Copper)"
Is there anything else I can provide?
Thanks a lot
