I am having trouble joining my AD domain. I have followed all of the steps on the various guides on this forum and elsewhere. I have followed the troubleshooting steps on this manual page http://doc.freenas.org/9.3/freenas_directoryservice.html#troubleshooting-tips and I am getting the below output. The instructions on that page say to submit a bug report if the echo result isn't 1 however it seems rash of me to presume that this is a bug and not just plain old user error. Any way to confirm?

Code:
adamjs83@sto01:~ % sudo service ix-kerberos start
adamjs83@sto01:~ % sudo service ix-nsswitch start
adamjs83@sto01:~ % sudo service ix-kinit start
adamjs83@sto01:~ % sudo service ix-kinit status
adamjs83@sto01:~ % sudo echo $?
1
adamjs83@sto01:~ % klist
klist: No ticket file: /tmp/krb5cc_1001

The docs are telling you to file a bug report if you get any errors or tracebacks. A status of 1 is most likely a config error.

Also, be careful about following random guides on the internet on FreeNAS. Many of those guides are out of date and have you take steps that are no longer required.

If you can, try following this guide: https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...directory-folder-file-user-permissions.20610/ If it doesn't work, try starting over and following the guide with a fresh config. (And when I say start over, I mean backup your config, wipe it, and start fresh. If you can get it working on a fresh config, that will go a long way to figuring out what's going on with your existing config.)

I personally followed that on 9.3, and it worked for me. IIRC, there's some stuff in there that no longer applies, but you'll know it because the boxes have been removed from the interface.

That's the guide that I followed but it is a little confusing because a lot of things are quite different on 9.3. I am currently running badblocks on some disks but I will wipe everything when that is done. When starting fresh is it necessary to reinstall or can I get away with the "Factory Restore"

I would just do Factory Restore.

I don't think you need to wipe your data, just the config.

Worked perfectly after a reboot. I guess sometimes that's all it takes.

Don't you just love that :p

I'm glad you got it working!
