We use freenas and nfs for our vmware storage.

We're looking for a way to track down io utiization.

We have a one server with multiple vms running, but they should be fairly idle, yet the storage servers network link is fairly busy.

Is there a way to see what file on the freenas server is receiving all the io?

How many VMs are you running? What operating systems?
Also, can we get a rundown on the hardware being used?
I think you would expect some activity even if your VMs are 'fairly' idle based on the concept that a running computer will access it's drive regularly even when idle and the network connection is serving the purpose of a drive interface between the VM and its storage.

How many vm's and the os is not really relevant. I have a vm thats producing significant io on the storage server. if I could see a report of bytes written/read to what files I could narrow it down instantly.
