IT'S FIXED!!! YOU'RE NOT GONNA BELIEVE THIS!! award for the biggest tech-ahole definitely goes to me...

it was the sata power cable... i forgot that i had swapped my power supply a while back and left the power cable from the old power supply in and had been using it.. upon close inspection, sure enough, it was different..

i've been running my big file copy tests and all is working perfectly! hopefully there's still life left in those samsungs..

anywho, to all those who chipped in, thank you for your time and putting up with me!

I would have expected one of the following results with a wrong power cable (unless you swapped the PSU for the same model):
1. Magic smoke escaping from PSU - possibly in an exciting manner
2. Not working at all

yes! a good bit more testing to ensure i'm outta the woods and i'll be able to finalize my build and begin using it.. definitely looking forward to getting off the old box onto the new one.
