Hi, I'm keen to get my security system running and I found this used server available for $1600. Would anyone mind providing their thoughts on the hardware? Downsides? It will be storing the video from six cameras that are 8MP recording 24-7. I plan on running TrueNAS core and RAIDZ2 at least. Thank you!

You need the drives, don't use SMR. This server might be overkill for your purpose, but that's not a bad thing per se.
Also make sure to read the following (altough your HBA looks compliant).
