OK ive read plenty of threads on how this isn't the best card for truenass however this is strictly a lab environment and i don't intend to store any valuable data or expect high performance.

My issue is i just cant get the card to present any disks to truenas in either conventional raid mode with 8 raid 0 logical drives configured or HBA mode.

I have booted a windows disk in both modes and have cleaned the drives. Still nothing presented.

Camcontrol devlist only shows the disks i have connected to the Sata controller on the server

pciconf -lv |grep -B 4 -i storage shows:

So the controller is clearly there. What am i missing?

The server is a HPE DL380 Gen 10 with 256GB Ram and dual Gold 6138 CPUs

The P822 has 8 1.9TB SSD connected. I have also tried conventional 900gb 10K Drives, all HPE

At a guess, TrueNAS does not include the device drive for that hardware RAID card.

I would also suggest posting in FreeBSD forums and HP forums.

Many people here just don't use hardware RAID, or used it in the distant past. So we may not have any useful advice for you. (And maybe a few that take the attitude of "See, HW RAID is not suitable for TrueNAS"...)

I did get it to "work" on an older version of TrueNAS, but it was a giant pain to do so. Also, it was super easy to replace the P822 with a very inexpensive (like ~= $20 on eBay) LSI 9207-8i. It used the same kind of cables, so the switch was easy. That worked great for me. To steal one of my wife's favorite sayings, you are "trying to make fetch happen" with the P822.
