Hello all,
First of all, former Nexenta user, moving to the TrueNAS platform. In the past I was a heavy Solaris user (going back to 2.5.1) and think ZFS and dTrace are some of the best things to come out of Sun.
To this day I continue to believe ZFS is one of the best solutions available, and want to continue to support and utilize the solution. One barrier I am running in to is a backup and recovery platform.
My storage needs are 70% VMware, with 30% NFS. With Nexnta I used some NDMP, and some native filesystem backups to handle the NFS data.
For a backup and recovery solution, I have used Veritas Netbackup and am quite invested in the infrastructure for that platform. Because of my retention and data capacity needs, I still go back to tape for a end storage medium. As Veritas dropped support for FreeBSD some time back, a native backup agent is not an option. I am trying to move away from FC, and go to iSCSI; so NDMP is becoming less of an option.
I am looking to see what others are using for backup and recovery options; who still utilize tape in their solution. the VMware side should be easy to handle, I am mainly looking to see what others are using for NFS and/or SMB shares.
Thanks!
-Mike
