Hi TrueNAS community !

I was just wondering if there is a plan for supporting firmware updates for the NAS hardware ? First thing coming to my mind is fwupd.

I am joining for this request. My case is: my SSD's temperature sensor is malfunctioning; it triggers alerts unnecessarily. There is a good chance problem is in the firmware because the same SSD with newer firmware works just fine.

My options are unlocking apt via TrueTool, and booting the machine from live USB. But it would be nice to have bundled support.

I had similar problem with my Samsung SSD 980 and fortunately Samsung provide some bootable iso to update firmware. I did it and since my SSD runs at 30 C at all time.

You can boot the server from a full blown Linux distro on USB, and update the firmware from that. As long as you're not touching the disks it shouldn't affect TrueNAS.

When you say as long as you don't touch the drives it is ok. Does that comment include not touching the drive firmware?

Updating firmware would normally be OK if you accept the risk of nuking the disk with a failed firmware upgrade, just make sure not to change the disk contents.
