I'm looking at this 24 bay supermicro server. It's got SAS2, a ton of memory (72GB), 2 processors with a total of 12 cores, and an X8DTN+ motherboard. The raid card will need replaced, but how does this look for a freenas box?

I'm looking to probably build/buy 2 freenas boxes, one for bulk storage, i.e. backups and media server, and a second for VM's and iSCSI. There are quite a few similar Supermicro servers with X8 motherboards, most are not SAS2 unfortunately. Does anything about this or the other ones stand out as a problem for a freenas box?

Thanks,
Jon

I just picked up an 847-based server (4U, 36-bay) with an X9 board and 2x Xeon E5-2660s for about that price. Can't link to my thread on Tapatalk, but it's under the heading of "just bought this beast". Might be worth contacting that seller and seeing if they have another one.

Edit: Here it is: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/just-bought-this-beast.42648/
