The Supermicro X12SPi-TF has support for NVME PCIe 4.0 via x8 slimline SAS connector ("Slimeline" according to their documentation). Can this support Gen4 NVME Ideally two samsung 980pros? If so, does anyone know of an enclosure that would support this at full speed connected via slimline 8i (SFF-8654)?

I looked at https://www.microsatacables.com/sli...or-broadcom-megaraid-hba-tri-mode-nvme-switch, but I think that is NVME Gen3 being NVM 1.3a? This is all a little confusing as I thought NVM 1.3c or 1.4 is NVM Gen4?! I'm probably conflating all this...

Anyway I ended up getting more CPU then I technically needed for this TrueNAS build and want to offload my build VM's to this machine and if I can make this work that would be amazing without having to track down a separate HBA card.

Thanks!

That would depend on: 1/ The BIOS allowing to bifurcate the 8 lanes from a connector as x4/x4; and 2/ having a suitable break-out cable from SFF-8654 to 2*U.2 or 2*U.3.
