All,
After much time spent this Saturday, I've concluded that Supermicro A1SRM-2558F, in addition to any of Intel Avoton / Atom FCBGA1283 products, are incompatible with the LSI SAS3081E. My best guess as to why is the LSI SAS8081E operates on PCI 1.0 and the new Supermicro board is not backwards compatible. I have two older Supermicro X58 X8SAX motherboards and these work with the LSI SAS3081E fine.
