Oh this sux lol. I remember researching between the two but i forgot why i went with HGST drives.So for a vdev its a good idea to keep the same size and brand etc.I can prolly look into getting wd reds for another vdev instead of mixing and matching on the same vdev
No, there's no reason that keeping the same brand for a vdev is a good idea. Homogeneous vdevs are more prone to failure, actually. The people who claim otherwise are usually those who are "used" to getting homogeneous arrays, but there are times these begin falling apart rapidly.
It's a good idea to match performance characteristics if you can.
