Hey Guys,

after many years of FreeNAS Storage Server Administration I have a bigger Problem with a new Box for the first time.

As I read in the Forums there should't be a big Problem with UEFI Boards, so I bought a Asus H87M-Plus for my Customer.

The Plan was to use a small SSD for the Main System.
But after Installing on there it won't boot.

After the Screen:
Code:
F1 FreeBSD
F2 FreeBSD

F6 PXE
Boot: ########

are just coming more and more "#" in there - ca. 1 per second.

So second try - Install to USB Stick.

There It Boots but hangs on the following error:
Code:
ugen0.2: <Unknown> at usbus0 (disconnected)
Trying to mount root from ufs:/dev/ufs/FreeNASs1a [ro]...
mountroot: waiting for device /dev/ufs/FreeNASs1a
Mounting from ufs:/dev/ufs/FreeNASs1a failed with error 19.

Loader variables:
  vfs.root.mountfrom=ufs:/dev/ufs/FreeNASs1a
  vfs.root.mountfrom.options=ro

Manual root......blablabla....
mountroot>

so this happens either on usb3 port and on usb2 port

so ot looks like on the usb stikc the loader works - and on the ssd it doesn't but on the usb stick the root filesystem couldn't be mounted.

So i tried what happens if both are connected and I select "F5 Drive 1" to boot the ssd from usb stick... that works - but as it is not really a solution I stopped testing where the changes than get stored - if they really land on the ssd as i suspect, or wherever.....

I tired all this with FreeNAS 9.1.1 and with the newest nightly build (which was called beta 3 i think).

Do you have any suggestions?
I tried any combination out of compatibility modes in the uefi firmware settings...

Thanks for the hints...

the problem, more than likely, and as shown on at least 12 other posts in this forum, is a USB3.0 incompatibility. Try to disable USB 3.0, and/or XHCI in the BIOS.

Oh, and this can't be the Problem for the OnBoard Sata atached SSD that is not installed via USB - right?
But I'll test the USB thing when I'm at work...

____

Done - it now boots from the USB Stick when it is connected to one of the USB2 Ports.
I also deactivated xHCI Support as you suggested.
It still doesn't recognize the Network Port - but I'll research on that later...
What is really strange is that it doesn't boot from the internal SATA SSD - no matter if it is in compatibility or native UEFI mode...

Any suggestions about that...?
