SSD temp/scratch drive for downloads

I was thinking of throwing a spare 2TB ssd I have into my new 8x16TB box, specifically as a temporary staging location for downloads, especially torrents. My primary motivation is to reduce disk sounds (as the machine is currently in the living room), but also maybe it would reduce fragmentation? The downside is a little bit of added wear on the SSD, though seems marginal as this ssd has a 1200TBW life expectancy.

Any thoughts or upsides/downsides? Anybody else do this?

I do, but not as a "scratch disk" per se. I use it how you described: downloads, seeding, temporary holds before I decide what to do, etc.

No real downside to it, but without redundancy, you risk losing it all. Even though these files aren't as important, it would suck to have to "start all over again", when you could have created a simple pool made of a 2-way SSD mirror.

Mine is mirrored, and I also put my System Dataset, logs, and my jails on it. This relieves some space and writes from my main data pool.
