Snapshots + Windows Shadow Copies

Using 9.2.1.9

I have the following snapshot schedules :

In windows, I see the shadow copies.

I even tested and it works PERFECTLY, I love it.


However, I only see the "hourly" snapshots (the first like of my Periodic Snapshot Tasks.

I don't see those taken daily, with a lifetime of 2 weeks, or those taken weekly, with a lifetime of 12 months.

I do see the snapshots (with zfs list -t snapshot): they are there !

I just don't see them in the "Previous Versions" list in Windows (shadow copies).


Any idea how I can fix this?

This has been a longstanding limitation and probably will be for a while.

Only one set of snapshots can be used for shadow copies.

That is very clear.

But then, how do I proceed if I want to resurrect a specific dataset subfolder from a snapshot that is several weeks old (therefore not present in the shadow copies) whithout having to also revert all the dataset to that state in time ?

You clone that snapshot, copy the specific subfolder and destroy the rest
