SMTP relay server in 12.0-U1.1

Is it a bug or a feature that in 12.0-U1.1 an email relay server can be specified only with authentication?
Access to my mail relay is restricted by IPs via firewall.
Is there a way to work around this?

If I remember correctly it has been discussed in the forums, and concluded it's a bug. It might be fixed in -U2 (when it arrives - should have been here now, but guess there's some bugs causing delay)

It was announced on the 2nd that the expected release would be pushed to the 9th due to some QA tests not passing.

12.0-U2 expected release

Quick note today. We're had to push back the release for 12.0-U2 until next week, 2/9. During final QA we found a few issues that crept into the release which we feel need to be solved before it pushes widely. Nothing integrity-level critical, but things that should get fixed for quality of life...

Missed that one - might be a good idea to have the date updated on the main site where it still (as I write this) is set to 2/2 ( https://www.truenas.com/docs/hub/intro/truenas-roadmap/ )
