I know this is not directly a TrueNAS Scale question, but given Scale can use MultiChannel, I figured there'd be people here who might know the answer to my question.

Does Multichannel need two physical cables/connections all the way between Server and Client on the same subnet?

TrueNAS Scale with RSS & MC enabled < - - > 2 x 10G < - - > 10G Switch < - - > 1 x 10G uplink < - - > 10G Switch < - - > 2 x 1G < - - > Client with MC enabled

Would I expect to see transfer speeds exceed 1000Gbps and approach 2000Gbps on the client?

It's the uplink cable in red that I'm wondering about given it's a single cable and whether RSS even assists here.

cheers

I am speaking from the perspective of a network switch geek, but aggregations like LACP load balance connections across the member physical links. That SHOULD give you an overall effective bandwidth close to that of all links, but each individual conversation will only be able to get the maximum bandwidth of a single link.
