smb share on windows, commvault gives "cannot mark file as sparse"

I set up several SMB datasets on a TrueNAS (13.0u5.3) box at work. It's purpose is to provide storage for our windows backup admin. He is running windows server 2022, and commvault 11.32. I followed the SMB Share Creation guide in setting up the shares. I set up the restricted ACLs, with owner@ having full control, and group@ can modify.

The storage admin can mount the shares fine, but when trying to copy the data from the old NAS to the new one (old one presented iSCSI targets, but he says he was having problems with janky iSCSI drivers on windows, and wanted to try SMB), he gets the following type of error messages showing up in his logs:

Code:
Cannot mark data file [\\truenas.example.org\vf_cv1\Folder_11.05.2018_19.25\CV_MAGNETIC\V_2178174\CHUNK_53941868\SFILE_CONTAINER_002] as sparse.

Has anyone seen this before, or can anyone suggest a solution for the problem?

Thanks,
