according to @ https://www.reddit.com/r/truenas/comments/17husl6/truenas_scale_2310_is_released_with_additional/

there is a new feature called SMB Share import

which purports (to me) that I should be able to have my TNS server, connect as a CLIENT to some other external smb server/share, then re-share that access as though to appear to be a normal TNS share.

however I looked through all of the admin pages of my truenas scale cobia server, and searched the forum and documentation, and did not find anything about where or how to actually utilize this new feature.

not seemingly indicated @ https://www.truenas.com/docs/scale/23.10/search/?query=SMB+Share+import

Right now that feature is enabled on specific Apps. The only App that has this enabled is the Syncthing (Enterprise Train) app.

It is designed to allow Apps to access SMB shares from other external systems. We can enable it on more Apps if there is demand / need.

Can it be enabled for the big blue button for non app containers?

That is a shame.

I have always wanted to be able to 're-share' a share, so that multiple \\server\shares can appear to be coming from a single server. (much like how containers use remapped host paths)

I would have also liked a simple gui method of attaching such smb shares so that they appear local to any apps/programs running on the server. (connect/mount the remote shares with a specific user/pass, local apps access shared files as that user.)

Ha, so you might be in luck then. We do have some functionality for this in Cobia that we've not documented yet. You can use the following syntax when creating an SMB share to do this kind of refrerence of a share living on an external entity:

EXTERNAL:<hostname>\<share>

Note that this does not mount the share locally on the TrueNAS server, it creates a DFS redirect to the other server/share (protocol feature).
