Hi there,

I noticed that freenas showed SMART errors on one of my harddisks. Removed it and checked it
with the WD Data Lifeguard tool in Windows, which showed "read element error" but no details.

HDDScan showed Current Pending Errors and Uncorrectable errors.
Chkdsk however did not find anything and took no action.

Can anyone tell me how I can "repair" the sectors so I can still use it as HD for non-important stuff?

Thanks a lot

1) Post the smartctl output of the drive

2) You can not repair damaged sectors, you can only hope the dont increase.
Using the drive for anything but testing purposes is not a good idea imo.

I have it in windows already - I will trash it anyway, just need it for a temporary download that is not important.
However, I mainly wondered why Windows says it is okay, I think the SMART report showed ~1000 bad sectors.

My oh my, don't do that. Do not take a hard drive from one environment and put it into another. You have all the tools you need built into FreeNAS to troubleshoot a hard drive issue.

As @indy said, post the output of smartctl -a /dev/xxx. See my links below, follow the Hard Drive Troubleshooting Guide.

I needed to remove it because I used it to test FreeNAS only until my new harddisks arrived.

Make sure that you do the proper burn-in testing, it may save you some grief later on.
