Hi,
I have 4 HDD's in a HP N54l
2 x 5gb HDD's in a Mirror
2 x 3gb HDD's in a Stripe

The Mirror works fine no probs

The Stripe works but is painfully slow.

If I transfer/write files to it, it starts off fine 80-90mbs but then slows down to 0mbs, it stops for upto a minute and then speeds upto 80-90mbs again for about 30secs and then slows back to zero again.
this continues for the whole copy process, sometimes it fails halfway through (rare) complaining target doesn't exist.
Reading from the drives seems fine so I don't think it's a hardware error.
if anyone has any ideas to the cause I would be very grateful.

Regards
Jamie

I did read the forum rules,
I searched and my post mentioned the hardware a HP N54l micro server and I also mentioned the setup.
What do you mean change your HDD Size???

What version of FreeNAS are you running? How much RAM do you have in your N54L? Note: one can put 16GB in them.

What protocol are you using? CIFS? Are you copying lots of small files or a big ISO or two?

Nas-Data is the drive pool I'm seeing issues with.

It makes no difference if there are lots of small files or one large file.
