Simple jail to log internet disconnects

Hi, I am new to jails, so is there a tutorial to help me create a jail that will log my internet disconnects. I've done the same thing in Windows with a script that pings every 5 minutes so I can write something similar in bash. I just need it to be persistent because running it from the shell is not.
