Hey Guys,

On my way to upgrade the servers and I'm looking for recommendations for the SFF-8643 to SATA Cables. I bought some unknown cables back then from AliExpress and they worked fine so far. As that's no longer being sold, I'm looking for a new reliable brand. Any recommendations would be helpful.

I would need like 12 of them.

Thanks

And why do you think I'm a specialist on that topic? I never bought cables like these. In the two systems where I have them they came with the mainboard. Buy from an established supplier local to your country.

Then look for the Supermicro part number.

Otherwise look for suitably short SFF-8643 breakout cables on eBay, AliExpress or wherever. AFAIK, it's not like there's a whole industry of fake cables out there waiting to take your money for a dressed-up piece of string.

@Patrick M. Hausen and @Arwen any guidance please
Sorry, I have not bought SAS cables in more than 10 years. During that time more connectors have been released that I have quite limited knowledge of which cards they work one, verses backplanes.

I know, i know, but i've seen some bad cables due to which HDD has acted up weird so just for the precaution. Would be the generic ones totally fine? Or should i go with a brand like Cable Creation/Cable Matters/10Gtek or StarTech?

The last couple of times I bought SAS cables, I just ordered whatever was the right configuration/length off eBay, without giving any real attention to brand. May not have been smart, but they've worked fine for me so far.

I've never heard of neither 10Gtek nor StarTech. I can confirm Supermicro is fine. *shrug*

One point for Supermicro although they surely source some arbitrary Chinese manufacturer just like everybody else - they have these super thin SATA cables that are just a joy to work with especially in crowded small cases.

Don't they fit snug enough? I use them because they came with my Supermicro barebones. Never missed the lock.
