I have tried it in VMplayer, didn't seem to work though so I'm going to try it on virtualbox. I could only find the ova file to download though

Again, you have to IMPORT it. (file-import then point to the ova file...)

The idea behind the appliance is to be able to simply drop into an existing virtualization environment:)
If you don't have one it might be easier to simply install the required packages yourself on your Linux boxes:)

Yeah that might be better, I don't really run a virtual environment at the moment.
I would have loved to see FreeNAS actually have these kinds of graphs.

But you do, it's just one jail away. The downside with installing it from package on a linux is that you'll have to do all the configuration work for grafana, graphite & collectd and then have to create the graphs for freenas.

It looks pretty-isch-er on the 10beta already: https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/freenas-10-alpha2-is-out.43627/#post-288436

To get the data to it, enter the IP address of the SexiGraf appliance under System -> Advanced -> Remote Graphite Server in FreeNAS.

There isn't anything to set up on the sexigraf server. Import the .ova into VirtualBox (or do whatever you need to do to get it into whatever other hypervisor you want) and boot it up. You can log in (either to the console or to its web GUI) with a username of admin and a password of Sex!Gr@f; the console login will give you its IP address if you don't already have it. On the FreeNAS box, enter the IP of the sexigraf instance. Then log into the web GUI of the sexigraf instance and choose FreeNAS from the dropdown with all the report templates--it's pretty close to the top.

I feel pretty stupid, my mistake was that i change the default data source from 127.0.0.1:8080 to my freenas ip !! That messed up the whole thing.

Thank you for your patience and help!
