SOLVED Server does not startup anymore

Hello all,

Some years ago I installed FreeNAS 8.3.0 on the hardware listed below. A few days ago I started up my server again, because I did not used it anymore. But it won't start up now.
I noticed that the menu was displayed for a few seconds and then two lines were displayed and from that moment my system was hanging.

So I decided to install the latest FreeNAS 9.3 on my server, but that brings nothing more.

Because FreeNAS 8.3.0 was installed on a classic hard disc, I now was intended to install 9.3 on a flash drive, but without success. Subsequently, I installed FreeNAS on other hardware, a DELL GX620 and thats works now.

I am using the following hardware:

• SuperMicro 743 chassis including eight 500 GB hard drives
• SuperMicro motherbord X6DHT-G
• two Xeon EM64T Nocona procesors
• 8 GB memory

I reloaded the Setup defaults.
Can someone help me with troublesooting and how to find what is going on here.

The Supermicro X6-series is pretty old, and FreeNAS 9.3 may just not support it (it certainly wouldn't be recommended). What happens if you try a clean install of 8.3 to a new USB stick?

OK, I tried to install 8.3.0 again now, however still the same result. See attached screen shot.
This software was installed on my server and was working two years ago.

I checked the BIOS battery and it was 2.6 Volts. I replaced the battery 5 minutes ago, but still the same results. I performed a memory test during the boot sequence, but no errors are reported.

Honestly, that hardware is old enough to be little more than junk. I wouldn't waste too much time troubleshooting such an old thing.

While i agree for most part, he is now trying to do a fresh install of the version that was running fine before. I think the least we can do is point him in a direction like doing a decent memtest86 (the memory test at boot is crap at best), cpuburn, etcetera.

The X6 may not even properly support booting from USB with FreeNAS. You are kind of on an island by yourself since we don't recommend anything older than the X9, and even when dealing with iXsystems tech support tickets I don't think I've seen any systems older than X7's. :P
