I have 4x 4TB WD red drives in a TN server today, and it is embarrassingly beyond the need to be updated. Today, I run a few linux VMs, a half-dozen plugins, and a custom jail or two. The bulk of the work probably comes from Plex, though a single i3-3220 seems to get the job done today.
Supermicro seems to have a decent reputation here, and I'm looking at this: https://www.neweggbusiness.com/product/product.aspx?item=9siv18k7fy2727. Am I crazy for looking at older refurb units? The aforementioned link has:
I'm open to better options, particularly if I can reuse my existing drives and it comes in the same ballpark cost. I realize there are price tags that go along with upgrades, so I'm also willing to listen to where I need to focus expenditures.
If I'm going about this all wrong, let me know. Apologies if I'm missing some obvious piece of information that would help this thread.

- 4 drive bays
- 2x Intel Xeon E5-2630L (lower-ish 60W TDP)
- 96GB DDR3 ECC
- 600W Gold PS
