Just recently finished my new build with 12 x 800gb HUSMM1680ASS201 configured as raid 10 in a supermicro case with sas 3 backplane and LSI 9300-8I HBA.
Everything was well for about a month or so, until recently it is starting to spew out similar error as listed above.

When the error first show up about a week ago, I tried destroying the pool, secure erasing individual drive and recreating the pool, but the issue return after about a week or so. Initially I was running the latest version of 11.1 version, and decided to upgrade to 11.2 last weekend to see if the issue is resolved. -- no luck
The error return last night.

I did some more reading and investigation and found out that the drive I used are capable of SED and the SCSI sense error kinda led me into thinking this might be the case.

Data Protect
Data Protect is received when the device is working but locked, either a physical write lock or for Data-at-Rest encryption when the device was not yet unlocked or the band was not yet unlocked.

So I did some digging and found https://www.ixsystems.com/blog/library/using-self-encrypting-drives/

I ran the sedutil-cli --scan but everything comes as NO

Then I ran

root@freenas:~ # sedhelper unlock
All SED disks unlocked

Not sure this will solve the issue, I notice the issue usually show up when the drive are loaded in the evening during backup process.

HELP !! I am not sure what else to check, I did the basic hardware troubleshooting like replace cable, memtest etc and I think all is good to go.

Thanks

bump, more of the same error pop up yesterday and this time it is a different mirror pair.
I've decided to migrate everything to another NAS i have temporarily until I figure out what is the issue.

What was the issue? I have a 5xSED Seagate 8Tb drives, and 6xSED 1TB Samsung SSD‘s and to me it seems that the drives is reporting error for not allowing access because not unlocked? But only the 8Tb drives are misbehaving.
Any ideas?

It seems, that the SED implementation on my Seagate drives are disturbing the driver or something, and I cannot wait anymore.
This morning I ordered 5 x HGST 8Tb drives, without SED, which works flawlessly.
The 5 x Seagate SED drives are installed in an old QNAP NAS abroad in Spain instead.

Ive had the same problem as this with the Rosewill RSV-SATA-Cage-34 i ended up replacing them with a proper SAS Backplane, i would check the Power to the Drives, Cabling. what does camcontrol show? run this via SSH

Code:
camcontrol devlist
