I have an enclosure with (2) x 24 port SAS2 Expanders. Each has 3 miniSAS connectors, labeled: in, in/out, out. Originally this system was set up with a single LSI 9211-8i with one miniSAS connector to each expander. I would like to add a second adapter for both capacity and redundancy. I am by no means a SAS2 expander expert, so here is where my knowledge is limited. If I connect on miniSAS port from each LSI card to each expander, will FreeNAS have additional bandwidth because of the extra SAS lanes going to each expander, will it just add redundancy, or will it just confuse FreeNAS?

If you want speed, connect both ports of one card to one backplane.
If you want redundancy, connect one port to each backplane.
Choose one, more speed, or redundancy.

PS. I don't think multipath works with SATA drives.
