Spearfoot thanks for pointing that out I recall verifying that some time ago when I originally created the VM and 'locked' the 24gb. Somehow when I migrated it to the new SSD datastore seems it went back to 'locked' being unchecked. To be sure I have it on 'locked' now with 24gb.
Below is the output of smartctl currently (I ran the long test overnight)

If this is an intermittent drive failure any ideas why a (single?)drive failure would make the GUI/console become unresponsive?
