We are new to FreeNAS and are very excited with the small test we did with an old server we had on hand.

We are looking to build out 2 units.

Unit A
will be used as a Backup Copy target for Veeam (backup archive)
this unit will have FBC card to optimize FC to FC communication

Unit A will replicate to Unit B in a data center for offsite retention

2 Servers

2-4 RAID Cards (not really sure if i need 1 or 2 in each server)

Why are you looking at SSDs? Also, I don't know if the controller included in the servers supports (or can be reflashed to) IT mode--if so, you may not need replacement controllers.

I saw the controllers in the list, but I was wondering if the controllers already in the servers could be safely used with FreeNAS. If so, that would save you some money.

As to the SSDs, do you know that L2ARC and ZIL devices will benefit your application?

unit A will have heavy seq writes. when the backup copy is written to it.
then it will be replicated to Unit B over a 50-100Mbps mpls
Unit B would only need to be read from if we needed to pull data from it cuz Unit A is dead
