I don't know where to address this problem (which forum). I've added a 120GB SSD drive (now empty) to my box and now smartd reports it's faulty all the time.

Excerpt from logs that repeats periodically:
May 19 22:36:30 soroise smartd[77416]: Device: /dev/ada0, FAILED SMART self-check. BACK UP DATA NOW!

This is what smartctl reports:

[root@soroise /nonexistent]# smartctl -a /dev/ada0
smartctl 6.4 2015-06-04 r4109 [FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE amd64] (local build)

It seems this drive has some new type of the status that is not recognized by smartctl. Any advice?

Doesn't look like any test have been run against the drive but I also wonder if the drive doesn't support it?

Weird thing with it... I tried to run the both the conveyance and the long tests, even if smartctl says they started, the log show there were no internal tests performed. I'm starting to suspect this drive to be faulty.

New update on the issue. Any attempts to launch a SMART self-test from smartctl doesn't leave any trace in the self-test log.

I messaged SanDisk technical support for answers.

Mine does the same thing. However, it seems that the latest smartctl version is presenting rather different interpretations of the parameters on my drive than it used to.
