I've been testing FreeNAS and I'm getting slower than expected write performance under Samba. Large file transfers are stuck at 65Mbps. Client and ZFS server are both using Intel nics. I would blame my hardware but with OmniOS I get 105Mbps writes. OmniOS and FreeNAS perform the same on NFS so I suspect the issue is with Samba (but I could be wrong).
I'm running FreeNAS 9.2.1.7, all the default settings. Sync=standard, compression=lz4, deduplication=off, atime=off. Same settings for OmniOS. I created a new pool for FreeNAS so it's not an import of the OmniOS pool.
Hardware: Avaton C2750, IBM M1015 HBA, 4GB memory (I doubled the memory to 8GB but it made no difference), 3x250GB 7200 RPM Seagates in RAID-Z, Intel DC S3700 as SLOG.
I tried changing the max Samba protocol at SMB2 and SMB3 but got similar results.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
