Safe to use SSDs of different sizes for a fusion pool?

I have 2 SSDs I want to use for a fusion pool, a Crucial BX500 240gb, and a Samsung Evo 850 250gb.

As expected, I get the error:

I can force it to go through, but am I putting the fusion pool at risk for using 2 SSDs of different sizes? I'm using 2 spare SSDs for this, and wanted to avoidgetting a new matching SSD.

I appreciate the help, thanks!

You're showing a metadata VDEV with no disks in it... why did you add one?

Clearly you can create a mirror with disks from different vendors and with different sizes as long as you don't care about the (in this case minor) loss of capacity.

The error you see at the bottom is a different one telling you that your metadata VDEV can't be a stripe (or shouldn't be) if your data VDEV(s) are mirrored.

Metadata VDEVs are integral to the pool so if lost, you lose your pool too...

Hi sretalla, thank you for your reply. I already have a pool, and I was adding a new pool.

This is my data pool, a mirror of 2 8TB drives:

So instead of adding a new pool, should I add a new vdev to this data-8tb-mirror pool, and set is as metadata?

This is how it looks like when I do it that way:

I don't mind the minor capacity loss.

Thank you!
