I wanted to see if I could use FreeNAS on VMWare player by following these instructions:

http://www.sysprobs.com/install-freenas-08-vmware

It all installed fine, boots up and I can get to the GUIS but I don't see how to access the USB drive that I have plugged into my PC. Ideally, I'd like to share it.

VMWare Player has a way to "connect" removable devices and disconnect them from my Windows host machine and it definitely disconnects it but I don't know why my FreeNAS system doesn't see it.

Should the GUI display it? I can't seem to mount it either. I get a permission error.

Has anyone done this? Is this doable?

Thanks,
Ed

I tried installing VMWARE tools on the FreeNAS VM instance which requires perl but for some reason pkg_add perl does not get installed properly.
