Restoring from a .db file

Hi all, I just want to double check with the experts before doing anything drastic.

I have a small truenas device which is failling to boot. It seems to get stuck in a boot loop and fails to initialise the NIC.

I have a backup .tar file and I just want to make sure that I have not misunderstood the restore process. Everyone mentions 'restoring the configuration' through this file, but I want to make sure that what this means is plugging my existing hard drives into a new / fixed NAS and then using the .tar file, allow the new truenas system to read the pool that currently exists on my drives.

I'm sure this is the case, I just want to double check!

Thanks in advance.

Your new/fixed TN will be able to read the pool without the config file just import it. If you want all your old config restored (like SMB shares etc) then you will need to upload your old config file.

Thanks for the reply. So if I just plug my drives into a new Truenas machine, it should automatically read the pool without even importing the .tar file?

Thanks again

Yep you will just need to import the pool from the storage tab. That's the beauty of ZFS. You could plug your drives into my server and it would work just fine.
