So, my current server motherboard and ram are very limited and are causing me issues. I just ordered a new motherboard and memory. When I replace the motherboard and reinstall freenas, is it as simple as just importing the configuration and everything will be back up and running?

Thanks!

Yes.. I'm not sure if different NIC drivers cause problems...

In my personal experience, simply moving the flash drive to the new hardware, (Assuming you are following recommendations) the likelihood of it working is rather high. If it does fail, re-installing and uploading your saved configuration should bring everything back up.

Thanks for the replies. I have a 14TB raidz3 and 4 jails setup and I really don't want to have to redo all of that. Just ordered the Asrock C2750 and 32GB of ram. I'll definitely try just moving the flash drive, but not sure how it'll like moving from Core 2 Duo to an Atom.

Not sure how it'll like moving from Core 2 Duo to an Atom.

FreeBSD and most linux operating systems, scan the hardware before loading any hardware modules. If there are issues, I'll be surprised.

You're getting my hopes up, stop it! I can't take the disappointment if it fails and my hopes are up, LOL. Went through that too often when my pipes were frozen for 27 days this winter :(

Seriously though, thanks for the feedback!

How many of how big hard drives are you using?

And you will be moving all these to an Atom board?

I cannot say yes or no. Though, I personally am one who prefers to future proof. I would use something with a bit more kick for CPU, personally.

Oh, I can understand that. I did a bunch of reading last night and some today at work(LOL) and verified the board works with Freenas and saw some guys on other forums filling almost all the 12 sata ports. Once I get it and test it, I'll jump in with some of my own observations and what I think about the performance.

FYI: The swap out of motherboard was seamless and all drives recognized and working great! So far I am very happy with the upgrade and getting great speed out of the system.
